Confusing but awesome free downloads... Arcade Fire, Matthew Dear, Big Boi, and others!

  • I say confusing, because I can't find any kind of indication on the site whether they're legal downloads or not.  But it all looks so dang official!  And pretty!  Maybe they're just too artsy to bother with silly little things like a "who we are" page, or "these tracks are all made available with the permission of the artist..."  That would probably just be too NORMAL, right?
Anyway, you can check out more than twenty tracks available in the Chirp Fall 10 compilation, and decide for yourself... and clue me in once you do.

The listing is as follows:

  • 01 Chirp, You Listen / Byrdhouse
  • 02 Black Hole / Kenseth Thibideau
  • 03 Fog / Nosaj Thing
  • 04 Before Your Birthday Ends / Suckers
  • 05 D.A.N.C.E. (Justice Cover) / Hawa
  • 06 Strt Srns / Wise Blood
  • 07 Bacchus / Galactic
  • 08 Soul Sister / Allen Toussaint
  • 09 Chirp / Byrdhouse
  • 10 Brujeria / Robot Koch
  • 11 Home / Glasser
  • 12 I've Been Trying / DJ Shadow
  • 13 Miles To My House / Lord Of The Isles
  • 14 You Put A Smell On Me / Matthew Dear
  • 15 Do It Again / Galactic
  • 16 Sa Mo Jung / Tokimonsta
  • 17 Rhizomes / Effi Briest
  • 18 False Pretense / Love Is All
  • 19 Big Wave Rider / Rainbow Bridge
  • 20 Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) / Arcade Fire
  • 21 Chirp is Silky Smooth / Byrdhouse
  • 22 Katey vs. Nobby / Galactic
  • 23 Bad Dreams / Lyrics Born
  • 24 At Last / The Do
  • 25 Heart It Races (Architecture In Helsinki cover) / Dr. Dog
  • 26 It's Raining Clouds / Blockhead
  • 27 Be Still (Ft. Janelle Monae) / Big Boi
And if you're not impressed by those folks (um, and WHY aren't you I might ask??), you can check out compilations from as far back as 2005... featuring the likes of Fiona Apple, the DecemberistsPostal Service, Phoenix, early Arcade Fire, and tons of others.  Nifty!

iTunes Weekly Freebies... Jack Johnson, Eric Clapton, free episodes of Castle and Cougar Town, and lots more!

Is the download you're looking for no longer available?  :(  Free-and-legal tracks are often offered only temporarily, so I'm sorry if you have missed the window for this one.  Look to the right to subscribe via email, feed reader, blogloving, twitter, etc, and I'll make sure that you never miss out on free music again!

It's been one of those weeks so I'm in a bit of a rush -- no recaps today, I'll merely say that a few of these require no explanation, and the others are all pretty good as well.

Jack Johnson -- "At Or With Me"
Eric Clapton -- "Run Back to Your Side"
Group 1 Crew -- "Live It Up"
Lost in the Trees -- "Walk Around the Lake"
Javiera Mena -- "Hasta la Verdad"

Free TV includes episodes of Castle (winner of the Devastate Boredom Seal of Approval!), Cougar Town, Raising Hope, Detroit 1-8-7, The Event, and Lone Star.

Don't miss out!  These will be available until Tuesday.

And a more regular posting schedule should resume in the next day or two as well!

iTunes Weekly Free Media... Bostich+Fussible, Dondria, country music video controversy, and free TV!

For free music this week you'll find:

The Gracious Few --"Closer" (Straight rock.  If you liked the 90's rock groups Live and Candlebox you'll be psyched about this one, because members of both bands have gotten together to form The Gracious Few.)
Dondria -- "No More" (Gospel-tinged R&B.  Smooth and catchy... plus, they were discovered on YouTube.  Gotta love it!)
Billy Currington -- "Pretty Good at Drinking Beer" (This country music video generated LOTS of controversy on the comments wall... some people love it and for others it apparently single-handedly ruined the country genre.  All I'm going to say is... the video features beer pong.  React as you will.)
Bostich + Fussible -- "I Count the Ways"  (This is the Cancion de la Semana, but its in English, and awesome.  Upbeat, alto vocalist, and there's.a.tuba.  This one gets the coveted Devastate Boredom Seal of Approval.)

For free TV this week you can snag full episodes of TLC's reality bridal show Four Weddings, the premiere of Disney XD's A Pair of Kings, and the pilot episode of Terriers, a new FX detective show from the producer of Ocean's Eleven.

These selections will be available until Tuesday. Go download!

You can download your free mp3 HERE.  We hope you enjoy!

Um, YEAH WE WILL!!  :D

Friday Frivolity: Making PB&J With the Losties

This was tooo funny not to share.  And I mean, Lost is gone but not forgotten, right??

How to Make a PB&J, According to the cast of LOST, via Devastate Boredom

It was super hard picking favorites because like half of them made me laugh out loud, but I finally narrowed down my favorites to Kate, Locke, and Ben.  Which ones would y'all vote for?

Jack
1. Gather ingredients
2. Point gun at ingredients and shout “HOW DO I MAKE A SANDWICH OUT OF YOU?!?!?”
3. Breathe heavily through your nose as though you were about to hit ingredients
4. Give up and make the sandwich yourself, and eat it bitterly

Kate
1. Make separate sandwiches, one with peanut butter and one with jelly
2. Take a bite of the peanut butter sandwich, declaring it the best
3. Take a bite of the jelly sandwich, declaring it the best
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 ad infinitum
5. Follow peanut butter or jelly sandwich into grave danger

Sawyer
1. Throw the jar of jelly at wall, sneering “I don’t need no sandwich”
2. Call the mascot on the jar of peanut butter lots of clever nicknames
3. Huff and puff and stomp around and grumble a lot
4. When no one’s looking, make perfect, even, symmetrical peanut butter and jelly sandwich and sit in a corner, enjoying every bite

Locke
1. Sit idly by, believing that the ingredients will find a way to make a sandwich out of themselves
2. Lose faith and make the sandwich anyway
3. Realize that you were the instrument by which the ingredients chose to make a sandwich after all
4. Run around the room and grab everyone’s knives, insisting that their sandwiches will do the same in time

Hurley
1. Make sandwich
2. Eat sandwich
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 ad infinitum

Sayid
1. Procure 23 milligrams of uranium-20
2. Set hadron supercollider to eight megajoules

2. Call the sandwich “brother”
3. Place peanut butter slice over jelly slice
4. Spread jelly on the other slice
5. Spread peanut butter on one slice

Ben

2. Claim you coerced them into making the sandwich for you all along
3. Say you’ll tell them everything if they make you another sandwich
4. Stare at them all creepy-like

Libby

Free Vanguard Records sampler: Indigo Girls, Trevor Hall, Jesca Hoop, and five more!

Ok, I'm not sure how I missed this one before, but I'm pretty excited about it!  Amazon has a free download of Vanguard's Summer Sampler, and boy is it worth snagging!  There are eight tracks:

Blue Giant -- "Blue Sunshine"
Jesca Hoop -- "Feast of the Heart"
Isobel Campbell (formerly of Belle and Sebastian) -- "Come Undone"
Stacy Clark -- "Don't Take What's Mine"
Trevor Hall -- "The Lime Tree"
Stephen Kellogg and the Sixes -- "4th of July"
Indigo Girls -- "Shame on You"
The Robert Cray Band -- "Chicken in the Kitchen"

The song "The Lime Tree" from Trevor Hall is actually one that I stumbled across ages ago and fell in love with, so I'm glad to get to share it with y'all for free now... and its cool to see a free track from Jesca Hoop also, since I saw her in concert four years ago when she opened for Josh Ritter.  She was quirky and entertaining, and it's fun to "run into her" again here.

Now go download!!

iTunes Weekly Free Music... American Bang, Senator & The New Republic, Luisa Maita, and Master Shortie

Alrighty, the weekly iTunes freebies are:

"Intermission" from Senator & The New Republic (pleasant but I can't decide if I like it, or if I feel absolutely nothing towards it whatsoever.  Thoughts?)
"Wild and Young" from American Bang (upbeat and catchy rock)
"Bringing It Back" from Master Shortie (music video -- hip hop/rap... this one generated some pretty heated "I love it!" "I hate it!" comments on iTunes, so you might need to check it just to form your own opinion.  The music video involves psychedelic floating Rubik cubes if that helps...)
"Lero-Lero" from Luisa Maita (jazzy, sensual latin balad -- iTunes makes an Astrud Gilberto comparison in their review and it is SO TRUE.  Definitely download this one!)

Let me know what y'all think!
